[11/22/2017] This quarter, we are shining the spotlight on someone who loves to be the center of attention – Mark Hudson. Mark is DayStarr’s Sales Director and has been a vital part of our team for the last 12 years. He spends his days meeting with local businesses to offer advanced phone and internet services. As a people person, Mark enjoys spending time with the DayStarr team and getting to know the residents in the communities we serve.
When we asked Mark what he thinks he is known for in the office, he replied, “I am clearly the serious, artsy, intellectual type. All business.” As you can imagine, our one complaint about Mark is that he has no sense of humor. Ha!
As a Michigan native, Mark and his wife Nancy live in Fenton. While it is a bit of a hike to Owosso every day, they embrace the communities they live and work in. Together, they have four children and ten grandchildren whom they adore.
Mark enjoys spending much of his free time serving at the Presbyterian church at Hurley Medical Center, where Nancy works as a nurse. When we asked him what he loves about his role there, he shared, “I love teaching, preaching and helping people. I thoroughly enjoy reading theology and history. In fact, right now I am reading and preparing messages on the Reformation (Martin Luther, John Calvin, etc.).” He is definitely a man who uses his time well!
When he isn’t working or volunteering, he and Nancy enjoy visiting places with historical significance. Pair that with good camping and beautiful weather, and they are in their element.
[11/22/2017] Davis Cartage Co. is a family-owned regional warehouse and transportation company. Since 1941, they have been known for their high-level of service and smooth logistics standards. They offer same day and next day delivery within Michigan and the Great Lakes region, including Canada! Talk about impressive.
We had a chance to sit down with Glen Merkel, President & Chairman of Davis Cartage, and he shared with us that if they lose their internet connection, business is basically dead.
Given that their trucking division sends out 40 truckloads per day and 98% of their business is done over the internet, it’s pretty important that they have reliable internet services. Their staff relies on the internet to obtain customer orders, communicate with truckers, and ensure timelines are met.
The team at Davis Cartage has been fantastic to work with, and we appreciate their enthusiasm and desire to get the most out of their internet service. As a big supporter and reliable employer to our local region, it’s companies like theirs that make a lasting impact.
Be sure to watch their testimonial video and visit their website for more information!
[11/22/2017] 2017 has been a year for the books. We have surpassed our record for both residential and commercial internet installs this year, and we are pretty happy about it!
This year alone, our DayStarr team has placed more than 35,000 feet of underground cable and 35,000 feet of aerial cable. Not to mention, we’ve added more than 500 new customers! This year’s progress has positioned us to provide DayStarr services to an additional 1,000 additional new customers.
Because we love good news, we also want to share that we have officially completed SC6! 360 residents in the area north of King Street, between Hickory Street and Dewey Street, are now eligible for DayStarr Services. If you have questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
We are incredibly thankful for both our loyal and new customers who enable us to do the work we love! We’d be remiss if we didn’t give a hearty thank you to our entire team for all of their hard work to make these installs possible. Here’s to hoping 2018 is an even better year!
[11/22/2017] One of the best ways to spark the spirit of Thanksgiving is to step outside of your routine and do some community service. Our staff had a wonderful day helping SafeCenter and the Shiawassee YMCA with beautification and clean-up projects on Nov. 10. Even though we were there to support them, we couldn’t help but notice the experience had a positive impact on the DayStarr team. Thanks for letting us lend a hand so you can stay focused on meeting your missions!
[Newsletter 8/29/2017] Tony Young and his team have been loyal customers of DayStarr for more than 10 years. As a pillar of the Owosso community since 1981, they are known for keeping their word, selling reliable and high-quality cars, and always putting their customers first. Not to mention, they offer a great selection of new and used vehicles in all GM makes and models.
Given they advertise and promote the majority of their inventory online and rely on their phones to serve their customers, it’s important that their phone/internet service is reliable. Tony Young shared with us that before switching to DayStarr, they struggled working with multiple vendors for phone and Internet. Their service wasn’t reliable, and when the phone and the Internet would go out, they simply couldn’t do business.
We are thankful for their long-term commitment to supporting DayStarr as a local business. It’s partnerships like theirs that have made it possible for our business to grow in this community!
Today we are featuring their testimonial video – because let’s be honest, Tony had some pretty nice things to say about us! Thank you, Tony Young and Young Chevrolet Cadillac Buick GMC!
[Newsletter 8/29/2017] We are happy to announce that SC7 is finally complete! It took a lot of blood, sweat, and tears (summertime in Michigan!), but residents in the area north of King Street and East of Dewey Street in Owosso are now eligible for DayStarr services. Our install team has been working tirelessly and is now well into SC6. Our goal is to have this portion completed by the end of September.
In other news, DayStarr business services, including phone and internet, are now available to clients in the area of Lansing Road going east to Bennett Drive in Perry.
Thanks to everyone for their patience and enthusiasm as we continue to expand our network!

[Newsletter 8/29/2017] Sorry, no one had a baby, but we DID add another bucket truck to the DayStarr fleet. As our scheduling needs increase, we wanted to have more flexibility when it comes to our install schedule.
Why should you care that we got another truck? Well, it means our team can address multiple installations at the same time! Not to mention, it gives us more flexibility in our scheduling requirements.
As you know, speed, efficiency, and productivity are pretty important around here – especially when it comes to getting the good people of Shiawassee County fiber internet. With more and more residential and commercial clients requesting DayStarr service, we knew we had to make an investment so our crews could keep up with the work. Thanks for giving us a reason to get a new toy!
A special thanks to Agnew Sign Co. for the design – they are a great local company with fantastic service! When you see our crew driving around in this new shiny truck, be sure to say hello!
[Newsletter 6/6/17] You can thank your lucky stars that your internet speeds aren’t tied to how quickly the DayStarr team can run! A big thank you to all of our friends and family who came out to support us for the race!
On June 3rd, several of our team members put up a fierce competition at the YMCA Curwood Festival Run. Aaron Lobb and Nick Spannagel ran a speedy 5k while Collin Rose and Casey Rose both decided to go crazy and ran the half marathon. While they didn’t set any records, they were pretty excited to receive their participation awards!
Several members of the DayStarr team enthusiastically passed out Fiber 1 protein bars to race participants. Unfortunately, these fiber bars don’t speed up your internet, but at least they taste good!
Thanks to everyone who participated in the race, donated, and cheered exuberantly from the sidelines. This race is a great event and a fun way to support our local YMCA while getting out in the community. Not to mention, it gave us a good excuse to pig out afterward!
[Newsletter 6/6/17] The Owosso Community Players (OCP) has been a loyal customer of DayStarr since 2005. OCP manages all of their bookkeeping, research, and ticketing over the internet. Kathy Brooks, the Executive Director, shared with us that given the importance of high speed and reliable internet for their productions, their partnership with DayStarr has been crucial to their success.
Kathy expressed, “My favorite thing about DayStarr is the service.” She went on to explain that she loves that she can pick up the phone, make the call to DayStarr, and have someone there within minutes! She shared that knowing somebody is there locally makes all the difference in the world.
Today we are featuring a testimonial video from Kathy and the OCP. Check it out!
As a cornerstone of our community, we believe it’s important to support the OCP. It’s when organizations like theirs invest in the community and choose to partner with local businesses, that companies like DayStarr can succeed. Not to mention, our community is so much richer by having the OCP in it!
Later this month, the highly acclaimed and beloved Broadway musical comedy, Sister Act, is coming to OCP! Showtimes are: June 16, 17, 23, 24 at 8:00 pm, and June 18 and 25 at 3:00 pm. To reserve your tickets, visit the OCP website!
